Ilidža joins Ljubljana, Zaprešić and Belgrade as regional centre of Youth Sports Games activities

(Patria) - The ceremonial opening of the fourteenth season of the largest amateur sports event in Europe was announced by the Mayor of Ilidža Municipality Nermin Muzur and Haris Deliahmetović, President of the Organising Committee of the Youth Sports Games (SIM) BiH.

The highlight of the two-day activities of the Youth Sports Games in the area of Ilidža Municipality will be the ceremonial event to be held on 11 June 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Central Square in Ilidža. Thus, Ilidža Municipality, as one of the SIM partners, has joined Zaprešić, Ljubljana and Belgrade as regional centres for the opening of the Games for 2024. Following the ceremonial event, the SIM Sports Day will take place – competitions in dodgeball and athletics for boys and girls from 1st to 5th grade of elementary schools in the Ilidža area.

"This is confirmation that Ilidža is constantly a host to major sports competitions and events, which we want to use properly in the future, and we confirm this through capital projects related to infrastructure. I am proud that we, as a local community, have supported this event and that we have the opportunity to host such an important occasion," said Mayor Nermin Muzur.

The one-hour programme, which will be broadcast live on N1, Sport Klub and Arena Sport channels, will include a revue-entertainment segment and the lighting of the Youth Sports Games friendship flame, with more than 3,000 participants expected to attend.

"Ilidža has been our home for four years, given that it hosts the Grand Final of the Youth Sports Games. Thanks to the great persistence of Mayor Muzur, Ilidža has become our SIM partner, and I am glad that we have expanded our cooperation to include the ceremonial opening event. Over the course of two days, Ilidža will be a centre of fun, socialising, friendship and promotion of all the good things that sport brings," said Haris Deliahmetović, President of the Organising Committee of SIM BiH.

On the second day, 12 June, competitions in small-sided football, volleyball and beach volleyball will be held. After the Games complete all planned competitive activities, the Grand Final this season is also planned for Ilidža, the home of good people.

In the previous 14 years of existence, the Youth Sports Games have gathered more than 520,000 participants, boys and girls from all over Bosnia and Herzegovina eager for fun, sports, socialising and learning about basic sports values.
