Croatian diver Vitomir Maričić holds his breath underwater for 29 minutes and 3 seconds

(Patria) - Croatian diver Vitomir Maričić has set a new Guinness World Record for breath-holding.

Maričić surfaced after an incredible 29 minutes and 3 seconds in a three-meter pool in Opatija, setting one of the most impressive records on the border of athletic, medical, and scientific possibilities.

To be able to endure almost half an hour without breathing, Maričić had previously prepared for several minutes by inhaling pure oxygen, and the dive itself was performed on pure oxygen.

The entire event was monitored by a team of five judges and official timekeepers to ensure the result was properly registered according to the rules of the Guinness World Records agency.

- Behind every record or success like this, no matter how small or large, there is enormous teamwork and support from family and friends; without it, everything would be impossible.

It was very difficult for me to dive today; it was significantly easier in training yesterday, but somehow it went well. After 20 minutes passed, everything became easier, at least mentally - stated Maričić.
