(Patria) - The mountain and shield volcano Wai'ale'ale is the second highest point on the island of Kaua'i in the Hawaiian archipelago, rising to an altitude of 1,569 meters.
The summit of Waiʻaleʻalea is characterized by a tropical rainforest climate with significant rainfall throughout the year, reports Punkufer.hr.
On average, about 9,500 millimeters of rain fall there annually, and a record amount of precipitation – as much as 17,300 millimeters – was recorded here in 1982.
The Guinness Book of Records claims it is the place with the most rainy days in a year – as many as 350 out of 365 days.
Although local authorities promote Waiʻaleʻale as one of the wettest places on Earth – its name literally translates to overflowing water – it attracts a significant number of tourists.
In the center of Wai'ale'ale, there is a series of waterfalls that flow down to the base, creating the popular Weeping Wall, around which are some of the most beautiful hiking trails on Kaua'i and Hawaii in general.
The Weeping Wall hiking trail, also known as the "blue hole," extends for about 10 kilometers and offers an extraordinary experience of being in nature.
