(Patria) - A Russian court today fined Google 4.6 billion rubles ($50.84 million) for failing to remove "false" information about the conflict in Ukraine, the TASS news agency reported.
Russia has been almost constantly at odds with foreign technology companies over content, censorship, and data, which intensified after Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
Moscow "cut" the fine for Google in an amount representing a portion of the company's annual turnover in Russia.
At the end of 2021, Russia fined Google in the same way, in the amount of 7.2 billion rubles, and in August 2022, when the fine was 21.1 billion rubles.
Google, owned by Alphabet, has not yet responded to a request for comment.
YouTube, also owned by Alphabet, is particularly the target of Russia's anger, but unlike Twitter and Facebook and Instagram, part of Meta, it has never been blocked, Hina reports.
