Genetics plays a key role: Diabetes, asthma and acne are diseases that are often inherited

(Patria) - Although many health conditions are the result of lifestyle or simply bad luck, genetics still plays a key role in the predisposition to certain diseases.

If your parents or grandparents had a disease, there is a higher probability that you will develop it as well. This, of course, does not mean the disease is inevitable, but it does indicate an increased risk, reports Index.

Doctor Clair Grainger highlighted three common conditions significantly influenced by genetics.

Diabetes

There are two types of diabetes. While type 1 is an autoimmune disease, type 2 is linked to lifestyle but also to genetics. "Type 2 diabetes is one of the most common conditions with a hereditary component.

- Although factors such as diet, body weight and activity play a significant role, genetics can increase susceptibility to the disease. This does not mean the disease is inevitable, but it suggests you should be proactive: go for regular medical check-ups, maintain a healthy body weight, and monitor symptoms such as increased thirst, fatigue or frequent urination - says Grainger.

Asthma

Asthma is a common condition that affects the airways, causing chest tightness, coughing and difficulty breathing, and the severity of symptoms can range from mild to very severe.

- Asthma is another condition that often runs in families. Research shows that children are more likely to develop asthma if one or both parents suffer from it. Asthma has a strong genetic component.

Genetics does not only affect asthma. If your parents have asthma, hay fever or eczema, you may also be more prone to developing respiratory or allergic diseases. Early diagnosis and an appropriate treatment plan can significantly improve quality of life - Grainger points out.

Acne

Although acne is often thought of as exclusively a teenage problem, it can persist into adulthood. Its occurrence is influenced by diet and lifestyle, but also by genetics.

- Acne is often considered just a passing phase in adolescence, but genetics can play a significant role in who develops it and how severe the condition will be.

Many people do not know that acne can be inherited. If your parents had persistent acne or struggled with it even in adulthood, you are more likely to have it as well.

Genetics can affect everything from sebum production to the way the skin reacts to bacteria and inflammation - Grainger concluded.
