The International Women's Film Festival in Seoul (IWFFS) is celebrating its 16th edition this year, and the festival will be opened by the film of BiH director Jasmila Žbanić, "For Those Who Can't Speak", writes Patria.
"For Those Who Can't Speak" is inspired by the real, poignant story of Australian artist Kym Vercoe, who visits Višegrad in search of the famous bridge she read about in Ivo Andrić's book "The Bridge on the Drina", unaware of what happened in the town during the war, NAP reports.
After visiting Višegrad and Vilina Vlas, upon her return to Australia, she found information about the events of the war in this area, where concentration camps operated quite normally. She created a play based on these events, "Seven Kilometers Northeast", with which she came to MESS in 2011, and then Žbanić contacted her and proposed making a film.
This film deals with war crimes committed against women and premiered at the 38th Toronto International Film Festival in 2013.
The festival in Seoul will screen 99 films from 30 countries, including documentaries by Chinese women filmmakers, films about women's experiences in the era of neo-capitalist economy and the global economic crisis after 2008, and a special place will be given to veteran Japanese actress Kyoko Kagawa (born in 1931). Eight films starring this actress will be screened.
The festival begins on May 29 and will last until June 5, 2014.
