Foreign direct investment in BiH in 2022 amounted to 1.44 billion KM

(Patria) - The inflow of foreign direct investment into Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2022 amounted to 1.44 billion KM, which is the highest recorded amount to date, according to data from the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CBBiH), which published the results of the statistical survey on foreign direct investment for 2022.

These record flows of direct investment in 2022 are 310 million KM, or 21% higher than in 2021, when they amounted to 1.13 billion KM. The bulk of this growth in foreign direct investment is due to high reinvested earnings of existing non-financial and financial companies with foreign investments, while investments in the form of equity and other capital (intercompany lending) amounted to a total of 500 million KM.

In terms of geographical distribution, the largest inflow of investments during 2022 was from Great Britain (271.8 million KM), followed by Austria (175.8 million KM), the Netherlands (166.6 million KM), Germany (159.5 million KM), and Serbia (134.4 million KM).

By activity, the most investments were realized in the field of electricity production and supply in the amount of 199.9 million KM, followed by financial services in the amount of 146.8 million KM, and the production of basic metals in the amount of 122.9 million KM.

At the end of 2022, the stock of foreign direct investment amounted to 17.45 billion KM, and this amount represents the result of investments and business results of companies in foreign ownership in previous years.

The largest amount of the stock of direct investments still relates to Austria (2.69 billion KM or 15.4% of the total stock of investments), Croatia (2.54 billion KM or 14.6%), and Serbia (2.43 billion KM or 13.9%).

By activity, the largest stock of foreign direct investment was registered in financial services (3.42 billion KM), related to investments in the banking system, followed by telecommunications (1.75 billion KM) and wholesale trade (1.68 billion KM), indicating that these three areas account for almost 40% of the stock of investments.

In line with the revision policy and based on additional data collected in this year's survey, along with the publication of data for 2022, revisions of data for the previous two years have also been made.
