Democratic Front Submits 24 Amendments to Sarajevo Canton Budget

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The Democratic Front caucus in the Sarajevo Canton Assembly has submitted 24 amendments to the proposed budget for 2023.

Although the Democratic Front caucus's position is that the proposed budget has a number of shortcomings, which are difficult to correct without drafting a completely new budget proposal, it was decided that the Caucus will try to intervene in at least some aspects of this year's budget.

The DF caucus will seek an increase in the budget for the Faculty of Philosophy of UNSA, which has been placed in a very difficult situation by the proposed budget, even opening up the possibility of suspending operations due to a lack of basic funds.

The amendments will seek the allocation of funds for the establishment of a Solidarity Fund for the treatment of severely ill children, support for the work of HUBs, which was previously planned by the KS Development Strategy, as well as an increase in necessary funds for the Veterinary Station.

The DF caucus has also requested funds for the repair of landslides at the National Theatre Sarajevo Workshop facility, as well as the renovation of the NPS facade, and the financing of six cultural institutions whose status has not been resolved, and the improvement of the musical program of the Sarajevo Philharmonic, which celebrates its 100th anniversary this year.

Amendments have also been submitted to introduce a new budget item for the repair of roofs made with asbestos sheets. The Democratic Front's request will also be the formation of a professional unit of the Mountain Rescue Service.

"Access to KS institutions is of utmost importance to us, therefore we want work to be done on removing architectural barriers, as well as digitalization by forming a cantonal e-portal, so amendments have been submitted for the implementation of these requests.

One of the most important amendments concerns the implementation of the Srebrenica Law. Last year's funds intended for the work of the Srebrenica Memorial Center were not realized, and this year, in addition to expecting the realization to finally begin, we are also requesting a larger budget allocation, considering the significance of the MC's work, whose effects go beyond preserving the memory of the genocide in Srebrenica and are of state importance.

Regardless of the fact that it is in opposition in the Sarajevo Canton, the Democratic Front will continue to act constructively, propose solutions, and demand that the ruling structure treat the canton's finances more transparently and responsibly," the party announced.
