A 246-meter-high technological marvel: The German skyscraper where no one lives

(Patria) - Like a giant drill, the tower above the treetops in Germany allows visitors to view the surroundings from a height of 232 meters, reports Punkufer.

The country's highest platform, in good weather, offers a view that extends to the Alps in the south and to Stuttgart in the north.

The 246-meter-high skyscraper in Rottweil, on the edge of the Black Forest, was opened to visitors in 2017, and construction began three years earlier.

Its unique appearance is due to its spiral design and the fiberglass material it is clad in. However, the tower's main role is not the tourist promotion of the region.

ThyssenKrupp, a German manufacturer of high-speed elevators, built it to test new technologies, such as cable-less elevators that operate on the principle of magnets and can move horizontally and vertically at a speed of five meters per second.

Such elevators would allow architects more freedom in designing buildings with unusual shapes.

Modern technology also allows elevator shafts to be half the size, and cabins to accommodate twice as many passengers.

While traditional elevators have height limitations, cable-less elevators have no such problems and allow for more cabins in one system, which could mean up to 40 percent more usable space in tall buildings.

ThyssenKrupp explains that such an elevator, traveling at five meters per second, would always be less than a minute away.

But let's return to the 26-story tower, which has 11 elevator test shafts, and one (with a cable) is reserved for visitors who want to go to the top and enjoy the view as they ascend.

The panoramic elevator travels at a speed of eight meters per second, so don't be surprised if your ears pop on the way to the observation deck.

The tower also has 1,390 steps, which have also served as the venue for the longest stair race in Germany.

There is also a 160-square-meter space available for rent for various events, and the tower houses a presentation hall explaining modern elevator technology.

If you decide to visit, keep in mind that the tower is open on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays from 10 AM to 6 PM.

The ticket price for adults is 9 euros, children pay 5, and toddlers under five can enjoy the view and experience for free.
