WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS Handball Dragons defeated by Faroe Islands in Mejdan, will seek qualification for the biggest tournament in the return match

(Patria) - The BiH handball team was defeated tonight in Tuzla's Mejdan by the Faroe Islands with a score of 22:24 in the first leg of the World Cup qualification play-off.

The guests imposed their rhythm from the very beginning and mostly maintained a minimal lead, while Damir Doborac's team constantly tried to catch up.

However, BiH did not give up. Radić stood out in goal with several important saves, which allowed our team to reach a tie (7:7).

Until the end of the first half, the game was mostly tied, but the guests managed to regain a more significant lead in the final moments and went into halftime with a score of 10:12.

The beginning of the second half belonged to the Faroe Islands team, which soon increased its lead to four goals (11:15), prompting Doborac to call a timeout.

This woke up our handball players, who, through Faljić and Mehmedović, caught up and reduced the deficit to 15:16 in the 42nd minute.

The best phase of the game for Bosnia and Herzegovina followed, and Mehmedović and Čolaković gave our team its first lead at 17:16.

Although BiH managed to maintain the lead for several minutes, the Faroese took control again in the final moments.

The key moment occurred two minutes before the end when our team, trailing 20:21, had an attack to equalize, but the pass attempt failed.

The guests punished this with a quick counter-attack and went up 20:22, practically deciding the winner. In the end, the score was 22:24.

The most effective player for the Faroe Islands was Teigum with 11 goals, while Poulsen added five.

For Bosnia and Herzegovina, Čolaković was the best with seven goals, Alilović scored four, and Faljić three.

The return match will be played on Saturday at 8:00 PM in the Faroe Islands.
