(Patria) - Chairperson of the BiH Presidency Željka Cvijanović and President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev signed a Joint Declaration on Strategic Partnership between the two countries today in Sarajevo.
"During my visit to Baku, I was received in the best possible way by Aliyev and invited him to visit BiH. He came today to show that he is a friend of all peoples in BiH, and he has shown this in the past as well," Cvijanović stated at a press conference after the meeting with Aliyev, which was also attended by the other two members of the BiH Presidency, Željko Komšić and Denis Bećirović.
She added that a new chapter in the relations between the two countries has been opened today.
She emphasized that the very name of the Declaration indicates that the decision has been made for BiH and Azerbaijan to become strategic partners, thereby improving economic cooperation, connecting businesses, and achieving better economic benefits, as well as security cooperation.
Cvijanović said that Azerbaijan has been diligently working on supporting social infrastructure in BiH in previous years.
She announced that the decision of the previous BiH Presidency to open an embassy of BiH in Baku will be implemented.
Aliyev pointed out that the Declaration contains many avenues for mutual cooperation in the field of diplomatic dialogue, economic cooperation, the establishment of a joint economic commission, as well as ad hoc working groups with the aim of concretizing future plans and projects.
"We believe that our good relations will continue to develop successfully, especially since we share common views, have good economic cooperation, as well as numerous bilateral meetings at the highest level, which have also been elevated to the level of international organizations," Aliyev said.
According to him, BiH and Azerbaijan are opening a new chapter in their relations and various forms of cooperation today.
"We will increase trade exchange, and we also expect concrete investment projects from BiH. We are particularly interested in investing in the energy sector in BiH," emphasized the President of Azerbaijan.
