(Patria) - Adriatic Metals BiH has developed one of the most significant economic and development projects in BiH.
The mineral resource exploration and exploitation project in Vareš recently received the status of "Project of Special Importance for BiH", which shows its significance in the context of an economic contribution of 25% of total foreign direct investment, as well as a projected contribution to GDP growth of 2%.
It is expected that thanks to this project, exports will exceed imports for the first time since gaining independence in 2024. Alongside the development of the Project, relations with the local community have also been developing.
- Our goal is not just the realization of the project, but the creation of a positive legacy. We have worked for years to truly understand the ambitions of the community in which we operate. Our project in Vareš is aligned with their goals and desires, and ensures sustainable prosperity for all communities near the mine - emphasized Adriatic Metals CEO Paul Cronin.
This has been achieved thanks to the work of the Local Community Relations Board, which was initiated by the company.
- It is a platform for exchanging opinions and an opportunity to advise us on how best to respond to the needs of citizens - points out Aida Ahmedović, Head of Social Responsibility at Adriatic Metals.
The President of the Board, Prof. Jasmina Šijak, emphasizes that this body works on the coordinated protection of the interests of people who live and want to continue living in Vareš and the company.
- Our goal is for Vareš to be rebuilt and renewed, to open up to the world and the future, for our development to be sustainable, and in that sense, the importance of this company is crucial. Positive changes are visible.
We are recording employment growth, increased purchasing power, greater economic security, new life. We are providing Adriatic Metals with an opportunity to professionally demonstrate how, through its own work and resources, it can reach the global market and compete with the largest - adds Šijak.
Activities aimed at sustainable community development are described in detail in the recently published Sustainability Report for 2022. The company's commitment to investing in young people, as the most valuable resource of any society, attracts attention. Scholarships for high school and university students, internships at the company's facilities, and cooperation agreements with universities in the country and the region are activities through which the company aims to provide opportunities for young people.
- Our intention is also to connect experienced world mining experts with young, promising, and interested students through various student internship programs so that they can gain the necessary experience and ensure professional development - explains Mirza Kovač, coordinator for student programs at this company.
The company is currently making the final preparations for the start of production, which is expected in October. This will also mark a new chapter in the relationship with the community. Namely, in order to best utilize the revenues from this project, the focus will be on supporting the increase of entrepreneurial activity, capacity building, and resilience in the local supply chain.
- We believe we are as strong as the community in which we live and work, and therefore we will continue to improve it - concludes Cronin.
